1973 Limited Edition
Sculpture - Her Kids - Woman, Daughter & 2 Kid Goats ~ Very cute
metal sculpture signed Marian Jolliffe and titled Her Kids. It is
10" high and 10" across the widest part of the wood
base. The image is of a young girl at her mother's right knee, and
pair of kid goats at her left knee (1 standing behind, 1 with it's front
hooves on her left leg). The sculpture is a limited edition and
numbered 35 out of 100, and dated 1973. There is also an impressed
stamp on the back/bottom that reads "A&S USA". The
piece is in excellent condition with no flaws found. The wood
base, however, has numerous large scratches..... looks like something a
small child would have done in boredom. There are screws in the
bottom of the wood so it can be removed from the metal sculpture.
You could either take the wood off and leave it without, or have the
wood refinished. A very nice item reminiscent of a Norman Rockwell
scene. |

1997 James Rizzi New
York City 3-D Silkscreen "A Marathon For All" ~
Fantastic limited edition silkscreen by noted New York artist James Rizzi
with a highly collectible image of New York City featuring the
then-standing World Trade Center towers. This very large piece
measures 26" high by 36" however, including the white laminate
frame, matting and plexiglass it measures 36" high by 46" wide
overall. It was released in 1997 and is #32 of only 350
produced. This has been a highly collected piece, and its
value has increased dramatically since September 11th for obvious
reasons. To read more about James Rizzi's artwork and how it's made,
We acquired this piece from a well-respected auction house in the Los
Angeles area in September 2002. It's provenance (history) is rather
interesting. We were told by the owner of the auction house that it
was placed up for sale by the FBI, which was liquidating the assets of
some well-to-do who was indicted for fraud. I'm told they were
selling off two entire households of fine furniture, art, etc that were
purchased with stolen money in order to recoup losses for the
victims. Even more interesting...... Apparently the word got out to
Mr. Rizzi that his high-demand artwork was being offered for resale.
We had to bid against the artist himself in order to buy it!
Our price is BELOW the $10,000 price
listed on the James Rizzi
website. We are offering it for less to compensate
for some minor handling wear to the frame and plexiglass, including some
black scuffs and some very minor frame dings and scratches. The
image is pristine. I would grade the framing to be in excellent+
condition. It can be displayed with pride in its present state, but
the ultra picky collector may wish to have it reframed to suit their taste
or restore it to perfect condition. I apologize for the dark photos
-- camera flash on the plexiglass made it difficult to get better quality
images.
Signed in the lower left corner in pencil. Title printed in
the silkscreen in the center bottom of the image in the border.
Numbered 32/350 in pencil in the right lower corner. Date
"1997" printed in the silkscreen in the lower right corner.

Pair of Vintage Porcelain Plaques in Ornate
Gilt Wood Frames ~ These very nice porcelain plaques each feature a
different romantic outdoor courting scene. The plaques measure
10.5" in overall diameter, including the frame. The images are
a brightly colored and detailed transfer design. Each plaque is
covered with a domed piece of glass. The frame of one plaque is
chipped in three places -- a little wood filler and some gold paint would
make them disappear. Personally, flaws like this
don't bother me at all, as they show the item has been around for a
while. Both have minor gold wear rubs from handling. |

Manuel Felguerez Metal Carousel Art Sculpture ~
Listed Mexican Artist Sold at Butterfield's Auction! ~ Unique 24" tall, 12" wide metal art sculpture by Manuel
Felguerez, a
Mexican artist who's sculptures have been traded at Butterfield & Butterfield in Los Angeles and San Francisco as recently as 1997. This adorable carousel features 4 riders on 4 horses. I have found signatures on 3 of the figures. The sculpture is in excellent condition. The only flaw I found was one of the upright poles that holds the girl in red curves in slightly. It's not easily noticed unless you're looking for it. (Back right figure
wearing a red shirt in the photo.) It does not seem to weaken the piece, and could probably be straightened, but we've decided to leave it "as is".
Felguerez is known to produce works in several mediums including large exterior metal sculptures, paintings and murals. Manuel Felguérez was born in the city of Zacatecas in 1928. He has a multi-faceted education; from taxidermy to anthropology. He studied at "La
Esmeralda" School -Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado-Instituto Nacional de Bellas
Artes. He traveled to Europe, where he studied at the Academy of the Grande Chaumier in Paris. He was a
student of Ossip Zadkine (1949-1950). In 1967 he was an invited professor at Cornell University and in 1975, was a guest researcher at Harvard University. His large-scale sculptures can be found in front of the Tribunal of Justice (Justice Dept) in Mexico City and the University of Colima
in Mexico. His sculptures have noted book value in art appraisal
books of $2,000 to $7,000, depending on size, subject and rarity.
We have written confirmation by Arte Felguerez, (
www.artefelguerez.com ) nephew
of Manuel Felguerez, that this is an authentic original Manuel Felguerez
piece made circa the 1970's. Mr. Felguerez also advised that a
Felguerez piece sold at the Christie's Important Latin American Paintings,
Drawings, Sculpture and Prints auction on May 18 and 19, 1994, for just
under $8,000. |

1957 Purple Parlor Painting Signed "C.
Everley" ~ I have no information about this artist, but must
admit that I was captivated by the strong colors of this vintage
painting. The overall dimensions including the old wood frame are
approximately 28" high by 32" wide. The painting is done
with a heavy application of acrylic, which has crackled from age.
The linen mat and wood frame appear to be original to the piece. The
frame finish is also crackled, and has some dings and dents from handling
over the years. The painting is signed "C Everley '57" in
the lower right corner. |
